Claire Sweeney has admitted her 'Coronation Street' character will "cause some trouble".

The former 'Brookside' actress is heading back to the world of soaps as long-lost mother of established character Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), and she's given fans a hint of what to expect when Cassie arrives on the cobbles.
She told press including RadioTimes.com: "I love Cassie and I hope the audience love her as much as I do. She's vulnerable, she's troubled and she's got major problems.
"As I'm reading the scripts, I want her to sort herself out because we all love Tyrone – you don't want anything to upset him, do you? It's nice to see a different side to Evelyn as a mother as well.
"Cassie is feisty and she's going to cause some trouble on the cobbles. She's a loose cannon, but then she's vulnerable as well."
The 52-year-old star - who will make her first appearance as Cassandra Plummer in scenes set to be aired on 28 June - also confirmed her character has an addiction problem, which will play into her behaviour.
She added: "Cassie has got a problem – she's an addict. That's what makes her so unpredictable and a loose cannon.
"She really does have great intentions to get better and to be with the family, but she's an addict and it is quite sad, really."
In the show, Tyrone grew up believing that his mum was Jackie Dobbs - who was played by Margi Clarke and famously shared a prison cell with legendary character Deirdre Barlow in 1998 - but in 2018 discovered after meeting his biological grandmother Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) that he had in fact been abandoned by drug addict Cassie outside of a police station shortly after his birth in 1982.
Producer Iain McLeod teased that her first scenes will kickstart a “tumultuous time” for the family.
He said: "Claire bowled us over in her audition and the scenes with her, Tyrone, and Evelyn will be electric.
"Her arrival will mark the start of a tumultuous time for Tyrone and the family and her impact will be felt across the street in the weeks and months that follow."
