Chris Tarrant thinks 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' has "run its course."
The 71-year-old presenter - who fronted the game show from 1998 to 2014 - isn't bothered that Jeremy Clarkson has been asked to host the reboot because he doesn't think it'll do well on screens anyway and he would've turned it down if he was asked.
A spokesperson for Chris told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Chris thought the programme had run its course. He wasn't approached but if he was, he would have politely turned it down. Chris is delighted it's back and wishes it well."
The 'Grand Tour' co-host has admitted he can't wait to front the revamped version of the returning quiz show later this year in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
He said: "I'm a big fan of quiz shows and I'm looking forward to hosting this iconic TV show and hopefully making a few millionaires."
Siobhan Greene, Head of Entertainment, ITV added: "It felt like a no brainer to celebrate a show that was a trail blazer of its time and broke the mould.
"In doing this one off special week, I hope 'Millionaire' will be introduced to a whole new generation. And with TV legend Jeremy Clarkson asking the questions, frankly anything could happen. I can't wait."
The original saw members of the public offered three lifelines, Ask the Audience, 50:50, and Phone a Friend, to help them in their quest to big the huge jackpot.
But the revamp will now feature Ask a Friend - which will see the contestants video call their friends on Skype - rather than Phone a Friend in a bid to stop cheaters.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The familiar lifelines Ask the Audience and 50:50 will remain but bosses have decided to bring Phone a Friend up to date. The option they're looking at will see contestants Skype their mates.
"The risk of a pal using the internet to find out an answer is too great now, and with £1million in play bosses aren't taking any chances.
"But they also want everyone to be involved, even your nan who might not have Skype, so are trying to work out how to do that."
