Chris Harris needs surgery after a go-karting accident on ‘Top Gear’.
The 47-year-old broadcaster is “still banged up” and will have to go under the knife after racing against his co-host Paddy McGuinness, 49, in a Formula Hmong race in Thailand for the BBC One show in June.
Paddy told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “He’s still banged up. His right hand is still not right.
“When he holds up his hand, I’m not sure if it’s his finger or thumb, but one of them points the other way. He will have to have an operation.”
The incident - which will be shown in the new episode on Sunday (30.10.22) at 8pm - will see the two zooming down a hill in the wooden cars wrapped up in helmets and body armour.
Chris labelled it “as grassroots” as racing can be.
He said: “This is as grass roots as motorsport gets. The steering is by foot, the only fuel is gravity and the machines themselves are, let’s say, sustainably sourced.”
Paddy remarked the cameras don’t accurately portray Chris’ “fair speed” and the way he crashed “hard”.
He said: “When Chris came off, he was going at a fair speed and he hit that ground hard
“There are no engines – there wasn’t even really a brake. When you finish, you think, ‘I’m glad we could walk away’. Chris got off lightly with that.”
During the race, Chris can be heard yelling: "I can’t steer. I’ve got absolutely no control."
Before his collision he says “oh no” and slides along a dirt road and rolls over.
When Paddy sees to his friend, Chris says: “My hand really hurts.”
Freddie Flintoff - who also hosts the show, but was not present as he contracted COVID-19 - complained about the “nightmare” of getting sick.
The 44-year-old ex cricketer said: “It was a nightmare. You go all that way, then you just spend all those days sat in a hotel room doing nowt.”
