The 49-year-old radio DJ has taken over the top spot from Jeremy Clarkson after he was axed from the show for punching a producer and he's now on the hunt for two more presenters and revealed yesterday that Bacon - who previously hosted 'Blue Peter' - is in the running.

Referring to Richard dropping him off at work yesterday (18.06.15), Chris said: "They were so focused (on me) they didn't see the gentleman who gave me a lift to work."

However, Bacon is currently busy working with ITV as the host of new six-part game show 'Eternal Glory', where eight sporting legends are given a set of challenges.

Meanwhile, bookmakers have placed odds on a number of well known faces that could be set to take over from Clarkson's former colleagues Richard Hammond and James May as co-presenters.

While Jodie Kidd, Guy Martin and Suzi Perry remain favourites at 3/1, Sky's Formula 1 beauty Natalie Pinkham has also joined the race with equal odds.

Other names less likely to audition for the role include Prince Harry at 250/1, disgraced former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter at 1000/1 and singer James Blunt at 25/1.
