Actress Charlize Theron, who has starred in movies such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde and Fast 9, will be producing the upcoming Aqualad TV series, which will debut on HBO Max as many other DC projects do.

The forthcoming show will be based on the 2020 YA (young adult) graphic novel titled You Brought Me the Ocean, by Alex Sanchez.

Many heroes have taken on the role of Aqualad in the comics, but the most recent is Jackson Hyde, who will be making the move from comic books to live-action adventures.

Aqualad, if that is to be the series’ title, will supposedly focus on Hyde, a gay teenager who seeks an escape from his desert life in New Mexico, and instead wishes to spend more time in and with the sea.

The show has been dubbed a drama-comedy, but there are no writers linked to the project as of yet, however Theron has been confirmed to produce the series.

With other DC shows like Doom Patrol and Titans being their own (standalone) projects, fans may wonder if the Aqualad series will be the same.

There is, of course, the possibility of the show being connected to the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), leading Hyde to cross paths with Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa.

This idea may hinge on who is cast as Hyde, and what other talent is attached to the project, as bigger stars are more likely to be loved by fans, therefore may get dragged into to the DCEU by fan requests alone.

Of course, one of the best things that we know about the Aqualad series so far, is that it is an LGBTQ+ project, which is great to see in the midst of the unfortunate “Don’t Say Gay” Bill in Florida, and the controversy with Disney and the same-sex kiss that was removed, and then re-added to upcoming feature Lightyear

Fans will no doubt be expecting, or at least hoping, for an LGBTQ+ actor to play Hyde, which would fit very well and definitely add some authenticity to the DC series.

While there is very little news surrounding the series at the moment, we hope to hear more announcements regarding Aqualad sometime soon.
