The 37-year-old actress - who played Janine Butcher on the BBC soap from 1999 to 2004 before returning for another six year stint until 2014 - played down the chance of a comeback for her alter ego but seemed to leave the door open.

Speaking on ITV's 'Good Morning Britain' on Tuesday (26.02.19), she said: "Never say never. I don't have plans to go back.

"I've been doing so much theatre. I am so lucky to get these challenging characters. I would urge people to see it before making a judgement."

Charlie is currently starring on stage as Tamora in Alex Oates' controversial play 'All In A Row'.

The production has come under heavy criticism for the way it addresses autism, particularly because the autistic character Laurence is portrayed by a puppet.

However, Charlie had argued: "I understand people's concerns, but I do urge people to come and see the play first before they judge."

It appears the star's daughter Kiki, 14, could be set to follow in her mother's acting footsteps, although it sounds like she'll be treading the boards rather than walking round Albert Square.

Went it was suggested her girl should end up on 'EastEnders', Charlie replied: "I know! But she wants to be on the stage."

Meanwhile, the soap star's comments about Janine come after she previously opened up about the possibilities for the character.

She said: "I'm lucky because there's great potential with her. I like to think of her as a hippy on the beach. She has the ability to be anyone and go anywhere."
