A new Channel 4 series will see celebrities experience prison life.
A group of of celebs are set to take part in the unusual TV experiment, with the well-known stars experiencing what life is really like inside a prison cell.
A TV insider explained: "The idea behind the show is it gives people who might have zero experience of prison life, or the criminal justice system in general, a taste of just what it is like."
Channel 4 has already overseen a pilot for the show. And now, bosses at Shine - the production company behind the new series - are looking to cast a group of celebrities with the ambition of filming a full series later this year.
The insider told The Sun newspaper's TV column: "That could include celebs from a walk of life where they’ve looked at incarceration from a different angle, whether they are ex-police officers, politicians, or actors who have played crooks but never actually been banged up.
"They’re expecting it to be a tough watch and a tough endurance test for those taking part, but the fact it is so challenging is part of its appeal."
Channel 4 bosses are determined to make the show as authentic to real prison life as they possibly can.
The creators are using a single-sex jail for the production and it will be a group of male celebrities who will star in the first series. It's hoped that the first season will be filmed later this year.
And, if the format proves to be a hit with TV viewers, Channel 4 will seek to create a second season using female stars.
