The 60-year-old TV star is well-known for her love of outdoor exercise, but she's admitted coronavirus totally transformed her lifestyle, revealing it caused her to feel breathless during short walks.

Speaking to Richard Madeley on 'Good Morning Britain', Carol explained: "I had long COVID.

"You know I'm a walker so I can go, 'Ah, I'm off on a nice little 15-miler today' - I couldn't walk 100 yards. Months later, I still couldn't walk 100 yards.

"I would be like, [gasping for air]."

However, Carol - who was diagnosed with COVID before the first lockdown - reassured her fans that she's now feeling fit and healthy, having overcome the virus.

She told the co-host of the ITV show: "I am [healthy] now - I am. Thank you, Richard."

Carol stays in shape by hiking, and previously insisted she feels young at heart.

The former 'Countdown' star said: "In my head I'm 47. I did a beautiful hike a couple of days ago and it was only about seven miles but it was so up down and cliffy that it was like climbing Snowdon.

"My diet wasn't great over lockdown I have to say. I don't generally eat sugary things or wheaty things but I was so tired and working so hard.

"Also since we were released from lockdown, I've been on the road a lot and in hotels, so I've been living the service station life, which isn't great."

Carol also claimed she doesn't care what people think of her.

She said: "I don't really care what anyone thinks of me. I know who I am and my mates know who I am. Life's great and I have absolutely not a single complaint.

"I could not have dreamt that at this stage in my life, I would be living the outrageous life I live."
