There has been speculation about Cameron Monaghan's character Jerome eventually becoming the Joker in television series Gotham for some time now, but the man himself now seems to have all-but-confirmed the news by posting a not-so-cryptic image of himself decked in similar clothes and makeup to that of the psychotic villain.
Tweeting an image of himself in what looks to be the Joker costume, Monaghan added more fuel to the fire when he then went on to delete the tweet, but it was too late, as eagle-eyed fans had already taken their own snaps of the tweet and the picture, which you can see below:
Jerome was shockingly killed off early on in Gotham's second season, but a trailer for season 3 of the show saw him back from the dead in all his maniacal glory.
Of course, there's always the chance that Monaghan is playing with the audience's emotions just for the fun of it. Who's to say he hasn't decked himself out in Joker regalia rather than it being an official outfit from the Gotham set?
All should become clear when Gotham returns in the US on January 16, 2017 on FOX.
