The British Soap Awards have this year scrapped their Sexiest Male and Sexiest Female categories, after 15 years of including them in the ceremony. Instead, they'll now award a gong for the portrayal of a storyline that involves a wider issue.
A source shared to The Sun newspaper: "The 'Sexiest' awards have been a staple of the British Soap Awards for years, so the decision to axe them was a surprise. But the bosses feel that they were a bit out of date, and didn't necessarily fit with the more serious image they want for the awards.
"This year their aim is to celebrate soap's brilliant actors and actresses - not hunks and babes. And that is reflected in our new award."
Previous winners of the 'Sexiest Female' award include Michelle Keegan - Tina McIntyre in 'Coronation Street' - who was crowned the winner six times in a row and 'Hollyoaks' Roxanne McKee, who received the award twice.
Last year's 'Sexiest Male' gong went to Danny Mac, who played Dodger Savage in 'Hollyoaks', whilst others include four-time winner 'EastEnders' Scott Maslen.
The newly-revamped British Soap Awards will take place on May 16 in Manchester and will be hosted by Phillip Schofield.
