'Britannia' is returning for a second series.
The season one finale of the Sky Atlantic historical drama aired last week but fans of the show won't have to wait long for the events of the final episode to play out, as it is coming back and filming will begin this spring.
The show is set 2,000 years ago in Britain under Roman rule and follows battling tribes in a bid to rule Britannia. It attracted an average audience of 86,000, however, it attracted 1.9 million viewers during its first two weeks on air, which was a higher rating than the channel's other original shows 'Tin Star' and 'Riviera'.
The gripping, action-filled plot of 'Britannia' - which aired in the United States in January 2018 and has a cast which includes David Morrissey, Kelly Reilly and Zoe Wanamaker - was written by Jez Butterworth, who penned the screenplay for the James Bond film 'Spectre' as well as the fasting-selling play in Royal Court Theatre history, 'The Ferryman'.
Zoe plays warrior queen Antedia in 'Britannia' and she was thrilled to be offered such a prominent part in a new drama, something she believes shows that there are now many more great roles for older actresses.
The 68-year-old star previously said: "It's changed so much for 'old ladies'. Men in the business have taken this idea and been smart and run with it. It's important. ... It's great to do different things, things that interest you not just as an artist but as a human being. It's great to be frightened or nervous of something or fascinated.
"['Britannia'] is fantastic. This is the first epic I've done. I'd never done special effects, things being blown up. That was exciting."
