If there’s a Gossip Girl-shaped hole in your life, upcoming Netflix original series Bridgerton from Shondaland could be the perfect antidote.
This week, the streaming platform dropped a first look trailer at the series, showcasing some of the drama and scandal we should expect when Season 1 drops on Christmas Day.
You can watch the teaser below:
Longtime collaborator of Shonda Rhimes, Chris Van Dusen serves as creator for the drama, which follows the powerful Bridgerton family as eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) makes her debut onto Regency London's competitive marriage market.
Hoping to find true love and mirror the lives her parents have lived, Daphne initially looks to have her pick from the crop; until her older brother (Jonathan Bailey) begins to rule out potential suitors.
Daphne faces further obstacles when the mysterious Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews) - who promises her identity will never be revealed - casts aspersions on the young woman.
When the rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) joins proceedings however, a newborn attraction sparks up despite the pair insisting they want nothing that the other has to offer.
With society already set in their expectations of the pair’s future, will they be able to take on the elite world and break down the preset barriers? Or are they destined to fail before they’ve even truly begun?
Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Ruby Barker, Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Ruby Stokes, Will Tilston, Florence Hunt, Ruth Gemmell, Bessie Carter, Harriet Cains, Ben Miller, Polly Walker, Sabrina Bartlett, Martins Imhangbe and Lorraine Ashbourne all also star.
The show will be the first to come from production company Shondaland to hit Netflix, after Rhimes signed a landmark deal in 2017 with the entertainment provider.
The multi-year deal meant that any of Rhimes’ future projects would be released via Netflix as Netflix Originals, and came after the platform bought US streaming rights for past episodes of popular Shondaland shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
Another exciting project currently being worked on by Rhimes for Netflix, is based on the New York Magazine story, How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People.
Originally written by Jessica Pressler, the feature focused on the real-life story of society fraud, Anna Delvey.
Julia Garner will star in the lead role under the working title Inventing Anna, alongside the likes of Laverne Cox and Katie Lowes.
Bridgerton comes to Netflix on December 25th, 2020.
