Bill Bailey wants to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022.

The 56-year-old comedian has taken to Twitter to express his interest in performing at next year's Eurovision, after James Newman failed to earn a single point for the UK on Saturday night (22.05.21).

Bill wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "I’d be happy to throw my hat in the ring for #Eurovision 2022 (sic)"

The TV star's tweet has already received an enthusiastic response from stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall.

In response to Bill's message, he said: "Please make this happen."

Jack, 32, was actually tweeting throughout the event over the weekend, even though the UK failed to earn a single point.

At one stage, he wrote: "Eurovision is the moment each year we take a moment to remember that men can wear plunging necklines too. #Eurovision (sic)"

He later added: "God I love Eurovision! It’s like someone crossed RuPauls Drag Race with the Darts. #Eurovision (sic)"

Jack also joked about the UK's failure at the show in Rotterdam.

He quipped: "If the Corona Virus entered an act they’d get more points than the UK. #Eurovision (sic)"

This year's Eurovision crown was ultimately won by the Italian rock group Maneskin with their track 'Zittie e Buoni'.

Singer Damiano David shouted "Rock and roll never dies" as the band collected the accolade.

By contrast, the UK came last for the fifth time and Graham Norton - who was working on the show for the BBC - subsequently expressed his sympathy for the country's entrant.

He said: "I'm trying to put a positive spin on it but I feel so sorry for James. A lot of disappointed people in that arena tonight, but thrilled to be a part of Eurovision."
