Ben Miller says nobody was more "surprised" than him about his 'Death In Paradise' comeback.
The 54-year-old actor played lead character D.I. Richard Poole in the first two series of the BBC crime drama before being killed off in the first episode of series three, and he will reprise the role for a "very special cameo appearance" in the upcoming 10th series.
Appearing on 'Good Morning Britain' on Wednesday (23.12.20), he said: "I thought he was gone for good, he was murdered in season three. He was stabbed in the heart.
"No one was more surprised than me when a script arrived. It's beautifully done."
A number of fans have shared their own theories of how the character will return to the show, but Ben's favourite was him coming back to life as a zombie.
He added: "We're very lucky to have a number of hardcore fans and there's been a lot of speculation. The one I liked was the one where I come back as a zombie."
Ben's return was first teased in a clip on the 'Death in Paradise' social media channels which showed Richard walking along the beach while clutching his briefcase and wearing a shirt and tie.
Further details of Ben's return are being kept under wraps by the BBC, but viewers will see the star's comeback next year, when the 10th series airs on BBC One.
The teaser clip also features Sara Martins - who played Camille Bordey for the first four series - just weeks after the star revealed she is returning for a cameo.
She said: "There are some characters that never leave you and I’m still Camille, wherever I go. "After many years, people still reference and send their love to me as Camille, so it was obvious that I had to go back and the 10th anniversary is the perfect opportunity! "I want to celebrate the longevity of 'Death in Paradise.' "
