The BBC are set to launch a new show which will aim to give another chance to former academy stars who have missed out on professional football careers.
The programme - which has a current working title of 'Back In The Game' - will offer young starlets assistance in the shape of high-level coaches, top quality training facilities as well as psychological help, with the aim being to earn some of them contracts with professional clubs.
A TV source told The Sun newspaper's TV Biz column: "There is a huge number of footballers who see their careers implode, sometimes through no fault of their own.
"The chances of making it as a professional are so slim, but there are plenty of players who still have much to offer.
“This show will help them get back on their feet and offer the type of assistance they’re unlikely to receive at lower levels of the game.
"The big hope is that some of these players can earn a pro contract.
“The out-of-contract players will play a match in front of scouts from some of the UK’s biggest clubs following the conclusion of their elite training.
"Hopefully by then they’ll have polished up their skills and found the right mindset to give their careers another go.”
ITV previously ran two series of 'Harry's Heroes', which saw ex-England internationals get back on the training pitch and back in shape to play one last game against a team of retired German legends.
The England team were managed by football gaffer and former 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' winner Harry Redknapp.
The first series, 'Harry's Heroes: The Full English' aired in 2019, and series two, 'Harry's Heroes: Euro Having a Laugh' was shown last year on the channel.
