'Still Open All Hours' is to return later this year for a full series.
BBC One has commissioned six episodes of the revived sitcom, which pulled in 9.5 million viewers for a one-off Christmas episode last month.
Sir David Jason will reprise his role as shopkeeper Granville in the new series, which will be written by Roy Clarke.
He said: "I am so delighted that we are doing a series of 'Still Open All Hours' as the feedback from our Christmas special has been so rewarding and encouraging. We want to have more fun giving the audience the kind of show they seemed to appreciate. It goes to prove that the corner shop is still open all hours."
BBC's comedy commissioning controller Shane Allen added: "The resounding success of the Christmas revival showed the huge and enduring audience affection for this much-loved classic. Roy has done a terrific job of updating the characters whilst keeping what was warm-hearted and enjoyable about the world of the original series."
David first played Granville in 'Open All Hours', which aired between 1973 and 1985, and starred the late Ronnie Barker as cantankerous shop-owner Albert Arkwright.
Filming on the new series will commence in Doncaster later this year.
