David Threlfall will join Joanne Whalley, Ashley Walters and Nico Mirallegro in the BBC's one-off special The Ark.
Filming has started in Morocco on the single drama, coming from Red Planet Pictures, the makers of Death in Paradise and forthcoming The Passing Bells.
David steps into the shoes of Noah after his recent stint as Tommy Cooper, and Joanne will play his wife Emmie.
Tony Jordan (Hustle, The Nativity) writes the one-off special, which is a retelling of the biblical story of Noah and The Ark.
As a farmer and family man, Noah is instructed by an angel to build an ark in the middle of a desert in a bid to save both his family and the faithful from an incoming and devastating flood.
When his sons refuse to believe him and help out, Noah risks ridicule and humiliation from the townsfolk as well as his family in his quest.
"The story jumped off the page at me from the first reading. It's not just a family saga but the first family saga. It takes its inspiration from many faiths and speaks of values which should be shared across all cultures. It was something I immediately wanted to be part of.” said David of taking on the role.
The Ark is expected to air on BBC One later this year.
