A ‘Banged Up’ sequel set in a women’s jail is reportedly already in the works.
The follow-up is apparently being planned even though Channel 4 has not aired the first series of the show, which is set for release on 31 October and will see six famous male celebrities – including ex-EastEnders star Sid Owen – locked in a men’s prison.
A TV insider told The Sun: “Channel 4 are pretty sure that ‘Banged Up’ will hook viewers when it airs, so they’ve been considering this sequel for some time.
“And doing a women’s version in a women's prison and an all-female line-up of prison staff was a no-brainer.
“Though, of course, they’ll be watching closely to see what the reaction is to the first series.”
The Sun added the sequel will resemble ITV’s hit show ‘Bad Girls’ set in a women’s lock-up.
It is said to be set to show a collection of female celebrities trying to adjust to life inside jail.
Along with former BBC soap star Sid Owen, 51, the debut season of ‘Banged Up’ will also include ‘Friday Night Dinner’ actor Tom Rosenthal, 35, ‘Gogglebox’ regular Marcus Luther, singer HRVY, 24, former MP Neil Parish 67 – who infamously quit parliament after he was accused of watching pornography in the House of Commons in 2022 – as well as 71-year-old writer Peter Hitchens.
They are put behind bars in the now closed Shrewsbury Prison along with real former prisoners, with the famous faces forced to perform menial tasks against a background of body searches and fights breaking out.
