Arthur Darvill has reprised his role as Reverend Paul Coates in the second series of Broadchurch - premiering tonight on ITV - but admits that none of the show's cast have been allowed to watch the new batch of episodes before broadcast.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain he stated that the importance of secrecy around the series is so much so that none of the actors involved have seen any new episodes in full.

"I haven't seen it. None of us have seen it. We're not allowed to see any of it. I've seen little bits of it for doing ADR, but not a whole episode. From the little tiny nuggets I've seen it looks amazing.

"There's so many of us in it that we all concentrate on our own little bits, so I can't wait to see everyone else in it."

Confirming that many of the same characters as the first series are to be featured heavily this time around, he went on to reflect on the huge success the show saw its first time on air.

"It went so massive, the last series. It's such a heart-wrenching, brilliant, upsetting story. Chris Chibnall has also written the second series so it has all of those elements. There will be a lot of surprises for people."

Darvill added that he does worry he may accidentally reveal plot secrets, but is used to working on jobs which require him to keep his mouth closed.

"I'm really good at giving away the secrets. But I'm so used to it. I always get jobs where I'm not allowed to talk about it and end up being good at talking about nothing for quite a long time."

Broadchurch returns at 9pm on ITV tonight - Monday, January 5.
