'The Apprentice's Scott Saunders and Brett Butler-Smythe had to be "pulled apart" by other candidates during a "heated" row.

The two hopefuls - who are competing for a £250,000 investment from Lord Alan Sugar on the BBC One show - are reported to have "completely lost it" with one another during an incident at the contestants' house before Scott was seen falsely accusing Brett of threatening to "smash his face in" during last week's episode.

A source said: "The fight between Scott and Brett was really full on, and it seemed to come out of nowhere.

"It actually started over the remote control.

"Scott and Brett were arguing about who got to watch what they wanted and then suddenly they were both screaming at each other.

"Then Scott taunted, 'If you want the remote, come and get it' -- and they both completely lost it.

"Scott started kicking off. It got heated very quickly and escalated to where both of them were swearing at each other."

The other remaining contestants - who include Joseph Valente, Richard Woods and Gary Poulton - are then said to have put a stop to the disagreement.

The insider added to The Sun newspaper: "That's when the other candidates stepped in and pulled the two of them apart. Things had got out of control and they didn't want anyone getting hurt."

However, Scott has since rubbished claims it was a serious fight.

He said: "This was a tiff between two mates, and it was all over in seconds. Myself and Brett are very good friends."

Scott and Brett are not the first candidates on this year's show to have clashed as Selina Waterman-Smith and Charleine Wain were previously said to have been separated by producers following a bust up outside the boardroom.
