The 46-year-old actor has portrayed Sean Tully since July 2003 and fans will be seeing him on the cobbles until at least late next year as he's recently signed an extension to his deal - and he hopes to do so again in the future because he wants to stay on the soap for as long as possible.

He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “I have just signed a new contract. I’ve always said that if they’re happy for me to be there, then I’m happy to be there. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“I feel that even more nowadays because some work is thin on the ground. I am very lucky to be in a job.”

Antony views working on the ITV soap like spending time with his family so can't see any reason to "say goodbye".

He said: “'Corrie' is like a giant family. It feels nice to go to work with people that you know and love.

“I’ve known a lot of them for the past 18 years. I adore people there like they’re my own family.

“For the past 19 years, I’ve never wanted to say goodbye to that.”

After producers were forced to scrap a number of storylines due to the coronavirus pandemic and various restrictions, Antony is hoping next year will finally see a long-awaited "big, dramatic" plot for his character make it onto the screen.

He said: “There are stories that we tried to do, but in the end we couldn’t because of the pandemic. So now they will happen over the next year.

“I have a very big, dramatic storyline that I am hoping we can now pick up and do properly.

“We are getting back into the swing of things now, so I am looking forward to the next year.

“I am hoping 12 months from now things will be completely back to normal.”
