The 42-year-old actor has played the part of Sean Tully on the ITV soap since 2003, and Antony is thrilled to have extended his time on the show by another year, revealing he's "very, very, very happy" with the agreement.

Speaking to Talk TV, Antony shared: "I genuinely thought I'd be here for three months.

"I thought that would be really great - regular work then off to the next job. So I'm amazed it's 15 years. I'm proud of Sean. He's been a beautiful part of my life for so long now."

The 'Coronation Street' veteran also revealed he's currently in the midst of filming an exciting new story line, promising fans it'll be "very different".

Antony - who plays one of the first gay men in the programme's history - explained: "I'm doing the beginnings at the moment. It's very, very new and very different."

Meanwhile, the actor previously claimed fans are always friendly towards him in the street because Sean is such a likeable character.

'Coronation Street' has recently attracted criticism for some of its dark story lines, but Antony feels like his own on-screen character breaks that mould.

The actor - who has also appeared on 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!' in 2011 - said: "I'm not one of those people where women batter you with their handbag because you're a philanderer or murderer."
