The quiz master - known as The Governess - has been a regular on the ITV show since 2010 and she has lifted the lid on what goes on behind-the-scenes - explaining the Chasers have their own area backstage where they congregate and watch filming until they are called into action.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards, she said: "After the head-to-head has finished and whoever it is has either gone off or gone back to their chair, then there's a short pause and if no one tells me not to, I just get up from the chair and walk back along the walkway and go back to what we call 'Chaser Corner' which is where we sit at the bottom of the steps with a monitor so we can see what's going on."

She went on to reveal the way the Chasers make their exit isn't shown, and their walk ons are often filmed multiple times.

Anne added: "You don't see the bit where we actually get up and go back but that's what we do. And every time we have to come on . Quite often what happens is you come on and you sit down and you open your mouth and then the floor manager says: 'Stop stop stop there was something wrong with the lighting' so you have to go back and do it again."

The quiz show star concluded: "If it's the first walk on I always turn to the team and go 'Look surprised' and that sometimes does happen."

She went on to assure fans the whole team has been busy recording new episodes after filming dropped behind schedule due to host Bradley Walsh's filming commitments on 'Doctor Who' and the enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anne explained: "We've been putting a lot in the can. We got behind first cos Brad [host Bradley Walsh] was on 'Doctor Who' and then the pandemic came along ... we 're aiming to do 180 [episodes] by the end of the year and we are fairly close to that now ... We are catching up.

"We are going on repeats again from the 7th November until the New Year but we will definitely be back. We are putting more and more in the can."
