Anna Williamson is worried ‘Celebs Go Dating’ will be axed.
The 42-year-old TV star has appeared as a dating agent alongside the likes of Paul Carrick Brunson and Tom Read Wilson on the E4 show since 2019, but admitted that "nothing is guaranteed" in terms of future episdes.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper's HotTV column as saying: “We haven’t had the green light yet. I am genuinely being cautious.
“With the industry the way it is right now, nothing is ever guaranteed.
“Even when you’ve shot a whole series, you don’t know if it’s going to make it onto TV.”
‘Celebs Go Dating’ last aired in September 2023, and saw ‘Love Island’ stars Chloe Burrows and Adam Collard, ‘Made In Chelsea’ legend Mark-Francis Vandelli, influencer Lottie Moss, internet personality Spuddz and former ’Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant Vanessa Feltz turn to the agency in search of love.
Vanessa agreed to appear on the dating show after splitting from her partner of 16 years, Ben Ofoedu, once she discovered he had been unfaithful to her.
However, the 61-year-old broadcaster was faced with backlash after viewers found that she was “sulky” during dates.
In her column for The Daily Express newspaper, she wrote: “It may not have been my finest hour… but with hours of such programming under my belt you’d think I’d have got the hang of it by now. Wrong! I’m currently doing my best to navigate E4’s ‘Celebs Go Dating’ and making a right pig’s ear of it. I seem to have forgotten my own maxim: ‘If you don’t want them to show it, don’t do it.’
“The audience sees what it sees and takes this lighthearted puffery with intense seriousness. Naturally, the broadcast is cut and edited to elicit maximum ratings – though if I’d been angelic throughout they’d have nothing negative to show, of course.”
Reflecting on the situation, Anna revealed that the production was “really sorry” that Vanessa felt blindsided by the editing that painted her in a less-than-favourable light.
Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: "Of course, we’re really sorry that Vanessa feels the edit has been unfavourable at times, and I’ve said to her too, sometimes it falls on all of us.”
