Anna Friel will play a detective in a new eight-part ITV drama.
The 39-year-old actress will take on the lead role in 'Marcella', playing the titular character who heads up a murder investigation after rejoining the force following time out to have a family.
According to the Daily Mail, she juggles raising her 13-year-old daughter, family issues and work in the show, which has been influenced by Scandinavian-style dramas including 'Wallender' and 'The Bridge'.
Hans Rosenfeldt, the Swedish screenwriter who created 'The Bridge', will take charge of the show while Charles Martin will direct.
Shooting begins in November and is expected to continue until March 2016.
The show will also star Florence Pugh, in the role of Cara.
This new role brings some much needed good news for Anna after her show 'Odyssey' was cancelled by NBC after just one season.
Anna starred as Odelle Ballard, an American female Special Forces soldier who comes across computer files proving that a huge corporation is funding jihadists in North Africa before her entire unit is murdered.
