Amy Dowden has revealed her surgery "went well" as she battles breast cancer.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro - who recently revealed she is “more determined than ever” to return to the BBC One star-studded Latin and ballroom competition - has shared a positive update with fans after starting her treatment.
On Thursday (08.06.23), she wrote on her Instagram Story: "Surgery went well. Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been so utterly amazing and looking after me.
"Very sore but focusing on the positives they said the surgery went well! Thanks for all the support and messages.
The 32-year-old dancer had already taken to social media with a photo of herself in a hospital gown flashing two thumbs up to the camera.
She wrote alongside the photo: "Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor."
Amy - who is married to Benjamin Jones - was sent well wishes from her ‘Strictly’ family past and present.
Her former dance partner and McFly star Tom Fletcher, 37, sent her the best, writing in the comment section: "Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you. X."
Former ‘Strictly: Takes Two’ star Zoe Ball, 52, added: “Huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy.”
Fellow pro Karen Hauer, 41, said: “Love you. You’ve got this.”
Last month, Amy - who has also been open about her suffering from Crohn’s disease - broke the news of her cancer diagnosis to her social media followers.
She wrote: "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it."
Meanwhile, there are “no plans” to cast someone new or to replace Amy on 'Strictly' .
A source told The Sun newspaper: "They won't be recasting a replacement for Amy and even if she isn't well enough to take part in a full series, they'll strive to have her back showcasing her amazing skills in some form.
"That might be in the form of a performance with other pros or even this year's Christmas special. Either way, the door remains open for her to return at a time and a manner of her choosing.”
