American Horror Story is a series that has run for five seasons to-date, blowing hot and cold with viewers with some storylines going over better with those watching at home than others.

Despite that it remains one of the most updated and fresh series on television, mostly due to the fact that the storyline changes with each season. Though many of the actors involved each year come from the now-famous AHS alumni, they take on different characters, allowing them to show a range of different sides to their acting ability. It's something that the show has really mastered.

It should come as great news to fans of the anthology series that the show will be returning earlier than expected this year, with FX announcing it will premiere on the channel almost a month before its usual debut, on September 14.

No reason has been given as to why the show has been moved forward, and creator Ryan Murphy is traditionally keeping his cards close to his chest as to the theme, characters, plot and so forth we'll experience when AHS returns.

Golden Globe winner Lady Gaga will be returning for her second AHS season this year, whilst Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Cheyenne Jackson, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates and Matt Bomer have all also been confirmed to return.

American Horror Story season 6 premieres September 14 on FX in the US, and is expected to follow in the UK soon after.
