Yasmin Finney has always had a "feminine energy".
The 19-year-old star - who is one of the most influential actresses within the transgender community - has revealed that she's always felt "connected" to make-up and other beauty products.
Yasmin told Vogue: "I found my feet with beauty when I first went to Superdrug, aged about 15, and I got the cheapest foundation. At that point I was pre-transition, so I think I always knew I had this feminine energy in me. Something connected me to make-up."
The actress - who is joining the cast of 'Doctor Who' - uses make-up to boost her confidence.
Yasmin explained: "I started going into school with a little bit of make-up on. I’d have to tone it down. But, over time, when it got to prom I was ready to kill it.
"I remember the amount of compliments I got on my smoky eye, which I did for the first time for prom. I just loved playing around with it and seeing what worked.
"I learned that make-up was a way to escape but also a way to really feel myself. People started to look at me differently at school as it really boosted my confidence."
Yasmin also revealed that make-up has helped her to feel "liberated and free".
The TV star said: "For me, make-up is a playground. It’s also an armour with which to navigate society.
"It makes me feel confident and feel liberated and free. You can express yourself in whatever way you want. Obviously you should love your natural self - and I do - but there’s no harm in having a little concealer, foundation and mascara on, girl."
