Alison Steadman was shocked to find out that her father was adopted.
The ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star, 76, discovered that her dad George Steadman was adopted was while making her episode of ‘DNA Journey’ alongside Larry Lamb, 75, who played her on-screen husband in the BBC sitcom.
While appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Tuesday (01.11.22) with Larry, she told hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls: "My father was adopted, which I didn't know, none of us knew in our family."
Larry said: "It knocked her sideways!"
Alison revealed her father probably didn’t know he was adopted, and she was so “glad” to have her friend Larry by her side when she received the earth-shattering news.
She said: "I don't think [my father] knew.
"He was eight months old. I was so glad that I had Larry with me honestly because I was just so upset by it, I really was.
"My grandmother, my aunt, my uncle they all knew [and] they didn't tell me, but they were lovely people that's the main thing and I love them to bits. But to find out suddenly that my grandma wasn't my grandma as it was, was quite upsetting."
The former ‘EastEnders’ star discovered “the same sort of thing” when he uncovered that his mum Jessie White was adopted.
Larry said: "I'd found out the same sort of thing - my mother was adopted.
"And there was a whole chain of things that sprang off that, so I kind of got where Alison was. Mine was kind of easier to accept but Ali's, this was a big shaking of the keystone."
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!’ star warned fans of ‘Gavin and Stacey’ to not “hold your breath” about a future festive edition of the beloved sitcom, which last aired a new episode over Christmas 2019.
Larry said: "I wouldn't hold your breath - and certainly not this Christmas!"
'Good Morning Britain' is on weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
