Alison Hammond thinks personal success at the National Television Awards would be a win "for everyone of colour".
The 46-year-old star has been nominated for the Best TV Presenter gong for her role on 'This Morning' and she could become the first black presenter to win the coveted award next month.
She said: "I think if I did win it, I would win it for everyone of colour.
"I never ever dared to dream this big, this was never even on my radar to be in this category. I might have to make my dreams a little bit bigger now."
Alison is actually the first black man or woman to have received a nomination in the Best Presenter category.
Asked whether the nomination might lead to more diversity at award shows, she told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I really, really hope so, I do feel change is happening, however, it is slow ... I think it’s absolutely wonderful and about time.
"I’ve definitely seen a shift this year, since 2020. It’s so lovely to see people who look like me working alongside me on the telly. It’s a nice feeling."
Despite this, Alison's experience will be tinged with sadness, as she won't have her beloved mum - who died of cancer in 2020 - at her side.
The former 'Big Brother' star thinks her mum would've been so "proud" of her career success.
She said: "Mum would’ve been absolutely over the moon. She would’ve been so proud."
On the other hand, Alison will be joined at the ceremony by her 16-year-old son Aiden.
She shared: "He was just so, so happy. I said to him ‘listen, I’m not going to win the actual trophy because Ant and Dec always win it but it’s like I’ve won anyway just being in that category. It’s unbelievable.'"
