Dr Alex George is taking a break from work after a "long and hard year".
The A&E doctor has told fans he is having a week off from Tuesday (30.03.21) to "look after [his] physical and mental health", following an "up and down" week.
He wrote on Instagram: "It’s been a bit of an up and down week. I always want to be honest with you guys and the last thing I want is for my page to be a highlight of good days, hiding the bad. It’s been a long and hard year, which ultimately takes it’s toll. I have really felt it this week and I am aware I need a break. I am taking a full week off from Tuesday. Recognizing when you are becoming stressed and acting on it, is so important.
There are good times on the horizon as well as things I want to achieve, most importantly in my role but also in my personal life and with my new brand (which I am rather proud of). To be able to do this I need to look after my physical and mental health. Never be ashamed to take a break, when you need it. I believe it’s a sign of self awareness and ultimately strength. Happy Sunday everyone and remember to be kind to yourself (sic)"
Last month, the former 'Love Island' star - who tragically lost his 19-year-old brother Llŷr to suicide last year - was appointed as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador by the Prime Minister.
Boris Johnson has enlisted the help of the medic to advise the government and raise the profile of mental health education and wellbeing in schools.
Alex said at the time: "The last year has been unimaginably difficult for all of us, but particularly for young people who have sacrificed so much.
"I am honoured to be appointed for this role where I’ll be working closely with the government to make mental health an absolute priority and hope to have a positive impact on the lives of young people and their education for good.
"Right now young people need a voice in government, and I hope that through this role I can advocate for meaningful change in this area."
