Dr Alex George is set to appear at one of the government's coronavirus press briefings.
The former 'Love Island' star was made a Youth Mental Health Ambassador by Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this year, and Boris has now confirmed that the physician will soon be asked to appear in the front of the media to discuss mental health issues amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking on Monday (15.02.21), Boris explained: "One of the people we could perhaps get up to talk a bit about how we’re tackling the issue is Dr Alex George who I have appointed as our special representative, the government special representative on these mental health issues, particularly as they affect young people.
"We’ll get Alex up and perhaps some others as well."
Dr Alex responded to the Prime Minister's suggestion on Twitter, admitting he'd be "honoured" to speak at the press briefing.
He wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "Let’s get young people heard on the main stage. Impact of this pandemic on mental health has been huge. Supporting wellbeing and mental health, including services, will be vital in the coming months and years. I would be honoured to try and amplify this message."
Meanwhile, Dr Alex previously admitted to feeling privileged after being handed a role by the government.
The TV star shared: "The last year has been unimaginably difficult for all of us, but particularly for young people who have sacrificed so much. "I am honoured to be appointed for this role where I’ll be working closely with the government to make mental health an absolute priority and hope to have a positive impact on the lives of young people and their education for good.
"Right now young people need a voice in government, and I hope that through this role I can advocate for meaningful change in this area."
