Alan Whicker has died at the age of 87.
The TV travel journalist passed on Thursday (11.07.13) after battling bronchial pneumonia.
The journeyman's career spanned fifty years, and saw him rise to prominence on 'Whicker's World' from 1959 to 1988.
He is survived by his partner of 40 years, Valerie Kleema, although he never married or had children.
Valerie commented on his dedication to his work, and how loved he was by the British public.
She said: "A few years ago a poll asked who was the most envied man in the country - and Alan won by a country mile!
"He said that he didn't know where work ended and private life began. Quoting Noel Coward, he would say 'work is more fun than fun'.
"On this last journey he will arrive curious, fascinated, and ready for a new adventure."
Fellow broadcasters have spoken out to praise the late veteran, including CNN host Piers Morgan.
He tweeted: "Oh no, Alan Whicker has died? Loved that guy. Fantastic broadcaster. Very sad news. RIP."
Meanwhile, 'This Morning' presenter Eamonn Homes also paid tribute to a man who he revealed helped him through a "bad time".
He wrote: "Sad news the passing of Alan Whicker. A professional inspiration who out of the blue wrote me a letter at a bad time in my life - Real Gent."
