The 'Coronation Street' star - who has played Tyrone Dobbs on the ITV show for the last two decades - has got himself in great shape, and the soaps' fans have started to notice his changing figure.

Opening up about the work he's putting in, he told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "I've had a PT (personal trainer) for about four/five months.

"I've been coming to the gym for a few years now. I've transformed a little bit myself and people have seen that. I like to come [to the gym].

"I have a pre-workout meal, I work out, then I have a post-workout meal or a swim and a steam. I can come here and learn my lines. You can pretty much spend the day here."

The 36-year-old actor has pushed himself further after splitting from his 35-year-old wife Lucy-Jo Hudson - with whom he shares a four-year-old daughter - in May after nine years of marriage.

He had already been going to the gym, but Alan appears to have stepped up his sessions, but he's still managed to keep up with regular pints with friends Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) and Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), providing they find the balance.

He added: "I've brought in Colson as well. If you work hard you can play hard. When it's sunny I like to sit outside and have a beer just after my workout."
