Adrian Chiles is set to return to 'The One Show' - five years after he controversially quit the programme.

The 48-year-old television presenter will make a one-off appearance as a guest on the BBC show next month to promote his new two-part documentary, 'My Mediterranean With Adrian Chiles', half a decade after he left to join ITV.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "This is a massive thing for Adrian. He left 'The One Show' in pretty controversial circumstances and at the time relations between him and the BBC weren't great. But over the last five years relations have thawed considerably and he has done radio work for them, which was a great way of being eased back in."

And it's believed the BBC are "happy to have him back" to promote his show, but Adrian will find the experience "surreal" because he won't have his then-co-star Christine Bleakley, who he presented with for three years, by his side.

The insider said: "He had a great time working there with Christine and although it ended in a less than favourable way, he still has good memories of the place and the team."

Instead, Adrian will be forced to come face-to-face with the new hosts Matt Baker and Alex Jones.

The source added: "When he was presenting, the show attracted up to seven million viewers and many people see the BBC as his natural home.

"It's going to be very strange for him to be interviewed by the new hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker."

Adrian will appear on 'The One Show' on January 6.
