Abi Alton

Abi Alton has responded to critique from Sharon Osbourne following her exit from 'The X Factor'.

The brunette pop wannabe was voted off the show on Sunday by judges Gary Barlow and Sharon, who criticised her for waiting until she was at risk of leaving to show what she can do in the competition, but the 19-year-old hopeful insists she would have "cracked" if she had put the same level of emotion into her weekly Saturday performances as she did in her sing-off.

Abi - who sang a touching cover of Ed Sheeran's 'Lego House' before she was kicked off the series - exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I was a bit disappointed [with Sharon's comments]. I can see where she's coming from saying people always perform better in the sing-off but obviously they do because your emotions are running so high and you are so vulnerable at that point that all you can do is lay your heart out on a plate.

"With Saturday nights performances you just want to go out there and enjoy yourself, it's a different sort of thing. You can't go out there and sing every week like it was your save me song. You would just crack!"

Abi has admitted that she struggled to choose songs which worked for her in the show's various categories each week.

She comments: "I think it was difficult for someone like me to fit in with those themes and I guess I was more restricted in some ways but I tried my best."

The brunette star regrets singing Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' in week two, but is glad she finished on a high note with her rendition of Frank Sinatra's 'That's Life' on Saturday night (09.11.13).

She explained: "That song was really not the right song choice for me but we all make mistakes.

"I'm glad I got it out of the way in week two rather than in week five.

"I would've hated to have gone out of the competition after a performance I didn't like."
