The West Wing Star Joshua Malina is relieved after California officials scrapped plans to build a jail in his neighbourhood.
Malina was preparing to fight plans to open a new facility to house inmates near his Malibu home, insisting he didn't want his two young children to grow up near a prison.
Talking about the proposals, the star said, "It is deeply disturbing to think that such an extreme decision would be made without any interaction with the residents here."
But Malina has avoided a showdown with local officials - Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has written to the actor informing him that building a prison in his neighbourhood "defies common sense" and the area will no longer be considered as a possible venue.
The letter also apologised for "the manner in which this issue came to the attention of the community."
An alternative location is now being considered, according to reports
