Homeland and Modern Family cleaned up at last night's Primetime Emmys, with each show picking up the major awards in it's field.
Homeland took home not only the ‘Outstanding Drama Series’ but also got awards for both Claire Danes and Damian Lewis’ performances in the show, as well as an Emmy for the shows writing.
This triumph is the second high profile TV event that Homeland’s triumphed at, as the show took home both the prizes for being the best Drama series and Claire Danes performance at this year’s Golden Globes too.
Modern Family similarly swept the board when it came to the comedy section of the awards, with the ensemble comedy picking up the award for ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ for the third year in a row, with actors Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bown picking up awards in the supporting actor categories.
The joint most awards of the night went to Game Change, the Tom Hanks produced HBO mini-series based on Sarah Palin’s political rise and fall in 2008, which picked up four wins including victory in the Outstanding Miniseries Or Movie category and winning star Julianne Moore the award for Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or Movie.
Apart from Damian Lewis’ triumph, it wasn’t a great evening for British drama, with Sherlock and Luther failing to convert any of their nominations in to wins. Downton Abbey picked up some silverware for Dame Maggie Smith though, with her grabbing the win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series category.
