Holby City

29 April 2008
BBC ONE 0800-0900pmRic is shocked to find Abra in an ambulance outside Holby. He has a head injury that needs stitches. Abra jokes about his sudden return, but Ric is not impressed – Abra disappeared and left without saying good-bye to any of his friends or colleagues. Abra wants Ric to go for a drink to catch up, but Ric is just concerned with getting him stitched up so that he can leave. He sneaks him into Holby and after stealing a nurses kit, stitches him up and tells him to go.Daisha arrives to work bickering with her boyfriend Paul who has walked her in as he doesn’t trust her. Mark is angry as he is short staffed again, and Daisha is late. Daisha is distracted as she needs to wire her mother money that day, but doesn’t have it. She wants to borrow it off Paul, but he is reluctant to give it to her and leaves. Mark later catches her on her mobile when she should be working. On AAU Lady Byrne is setting up a shoot for the new promotional campaign for her charity. She is auditioning nurses to become the new face of the campaign and Donna sees this as her ticket into the modelling world. Unfortunately Lady Byrne is not impressed by Donna’s talent and spots pretty, new nurse Daisha. Unfortunately due to other distractions, Daisha is too pre-occupied to think about applying. Connie arrives at work commenting on Donna’s ‘new’ necklace. Michael is still enjoying his flirty rivalry with Connie and gets Maria to page her and come to an operation that he knows he won’t need her assistance with. Patient Shirley Moor has been involved in a bus crash and has two knitting needles stuck in her chest. The operation goes smoothly and when Connie arrives Michael smugly dismisses her saying she must have been paged by mistake. Rather than being annoyed, Connie uses this as an opportunity to tease Michael about the necklace she knows he gave Donna. A previous patient of Joseph’s - Jamie Maxwell – is brought into Holby with palpitations and shortness of breath. He has had a recent aortic valve replacement and they discover he has a heart murmur. They think it may have been caused by stress from his wife Emma, who is threatening to leave him. After an argument Emma leaves, but Jamie becomes critical and needs to be operated on. He refuses to go into theatre without Emma and so Joseph eventually finds her so that they can operate. Jac assists Joseph and is really supportive during the surgery – maybe Jac has really changed for the better.Lady Byrne continues her search for a nurse to be ambassador for the foundation. She asks Joseph about Faye, but she has more important things to deal with at this current time.  Daisha finds out that there is a payment of £200 to do the shoot and is keen to apply but is too late. She speaks to Joseph, who tries to cheer her up, telling her that it is probably for the best anyway. Unbeknown to Daisha, Paul has arrived with a bunch of flowers for her, but after seeing her ‘flirting’ with Joseph he storms out.Lola and Kyla are curious as to why Ric is jumpy and behaving strangely. Ric is meant to be at a departmental meeting but becomes sidetracked when the security guard informs him that Abra has turned up again in reception. Ric finds him with a dislocated shoulder after falling off a stall in the bar so he again sneaks him into the hospital, hiding him in Holby Care. After travelling and living in Africa, Ric does not understand why he has come back. He soon learns that Abra is skint and that his life is a mess. Ric stops Abra trying to find Kyla and tells him to just sleep off his hangover and then to get out. He is untrustworthy and a coward, he can’t mess up Kyla’s life again. Lola also discovers that Ric is hiding Abra and is angry that Ric even has the time of day for him.

Michael tells Donna that Connie has been making assumptions about them and persuades her to convince Connie that nothing is going on. This amuses Connie even more and when she saves Michael’s patient Shirley, who is rushed in for further surgery, she reminds Michael that it’s her success and his failure; he should watch his back.

Daisha’s boyfriend Paul returns to Holby with all of her belongings in bin liners. He begins scattering her clothes through the corridors, angry that she can never be trusted. He calls her a whore and she slaps him across the face. Mark breaks up the argument and Paul leaves. Daisha is upset and clearly in need of some help. With a little persuasion, Lady Byrne agrees to use Daisha for the photo shoot and she therefore earns the £200 she can wire to her mum. Mark also helps her out in finding somewhere to stay.

After Abra disappears from Holby Care the security guard discovers him in the bar. Ric goes to find him and after paying his bar tab, eventually agrees to put him up – but for one week only.
