Brits have long taken great pride in our entertainment industry, and the same can be said with our TV shows.
Surprisingly enough though, despite it having just collecting a nice little clutch of Golden Globe nominations, Downton Abbey has been beaten by Doctor Who in a poll taken by Plusnet.
The sci-fi show came out on top of the poll, with nearly half of the country saying that they are proud of the show, with period drama Downton coming in close behind with a score of 44%.
Over 2000 people took part in the survey done by the home phone and broadband provider and it seems like they’re more proud of Coronation Street as they are of EastEnders, with the ITV soap getting a score 34% compared to the 23% pride rate that EastEnders attracted.
Off the back of difficult year, it seems that only one in five of those questioned is still proud of The X Factor. The reality show’s not had the smoothest of times of late, and it seems that it’s no longer a great source of pride.
When it comes to British industries it was entertainment that came out head and shoulders above its rivals. Six out of 10 (59%) people are proud of our entertainment sector, with the closest rivals coming from Britain’s industrial sector, which polled 51%, and manufacturing with 47%.
Jamie Ford, Plusnet CEO, said, “With so much of our broadband traffic being the streaming of entertainment content, it’s great to see that Brits are most proud of the country’s entertainment industry. Pride is at the centre of everything we do, whether it’s our award-winning products or customer service, so it has been fascinating to see the results of this survey and see exactly what it is that makes Britain proud.”
