With the National Television Awards broadcasting live tonight from The O2 London, the event is promising to be the biggest yet as some of the most powerful and adored names in the business go head to head for a variety of coveted accolades.

The addition of a Best TV Detective category this year was a necessary one, with crime drama taking a firm front seat in terms of fantastic writing and quality on the small screen.

Coronation Street is expected to fare well, and it'd be a surprise if either David Neilson or Julie Hesmondhalgh didn't scoop the Serial Drama Performance award following their devastating cancer and suicide plot that only came to a head this week.

Thirteen could be unlucky for some, but Ant and Dec may break that curse if they win the Best Entertainment Presenter category, as it'd be their 13th win of the award to-date.

Then of course there's one of the massive hits of last year, Educating Yorkshire which is facing strong competition from Paul O Grady, Trevor McDonald and a huddle of penguins in the Documentary category - we have a sneaking suspicion that the underdogs will take this one.

Elsewhere, Mrs Brown's Boys, Britain's Got Talent and Broadchurch are all expected to do well as some of the most talked about series of 2013 - but who will the viewers at home ultimately decided is worthy of these awards?

The National Television Awards 2014 broadcasts live tonight - Wednesday January 22 - on ITV at 7.30pm.
