The shortlist for the 2014 National Television Awards has been released.

Favourites David Tennant and Olivia Colman both find themselves in the best TV Detective category for their portrayals of DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller in hit crime drama series Broadchurch.

Coronation Street stars take three of the four slots available in best Serial Drama Performance, with David Neilson (Roy Cropper), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) and Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) all hoping to take home the gong for their respective soap, but they face stiff competition from Eastenders' Jessie Wallace (Kat Moon).

Matt Smith will be hoping to take best Drama Performance for his role as The Doctor in Doctor Who, as he has now left the show, and the series is also nominated for best Drama, alongside Broadchurch, Downton Abbey and Call The Midwife.
