Whether you’re a fan of The Masked Singer or not, the show gets tongues wagging around the world when some of the most recognisable names in showbiz are revealed to have been hiding under the weird and wonderful outfits that take to the stage.
Here, we take a look back at the seven most shocking reveals from both the US and UK editions of the show to-date…
7. Sarah Palin as the Bear (Masked Singer US)
Politicians taking part in reality TV shows seems to be a recurring theme, but when former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin removed her Bear head, there wasn’t a person watching whose jaw wasn’t on the floor. The reveal caused controversy with many at home, as Palin is quite the dividing figure; something that continued with a recent reveal on the series currently being filmed, when two judges walked from the panel after a Rudy Giuliani reveal…
6. Ne-Yo as the Badger (Masked Singer UK)
One of the biggest names to ever appear on the UK edition of the show was American singer, songwriter and producer Ne-Yo. He almost went all the way in the competition but, lost out in the final episode of the second season to none other than Joss Stone, who was costumed as a Sausage, because of course.
5. Kermit the Frog as the Snail (Masked Singer US)
Perhaps the strangest reveal of all came when Snail was booted out of the American version of the competition. Instead of taking the character’s head off, as is usually the case, a hole appeared in the snail’s shell, allowing the iconic Kermit the Frog to poke through, much to the delight of everybody in attendance.
4. Michelle Williams as the Butterfly and Rockhopper (Masked Singer US, Masked Singer UK)
Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams is the first star to appear on both the US and UK editions of The Masked Singer, after reaching fourth place in the most-recent British series. She bettered her position at seventh on the US show; perhaps she could make it third time lucky and go all the way?
3. Lil Wayne as Robot (Masked Singer US)
When rapper Lil Wayne was revealed as the Robot on The Masked Singer, the judging panel said that it might just be the most shocking reveal of all time. Nobody expected someone with such street cred to agree to appear on the show, but it was nice to see a fun and soft side to the legend of the rap genre.
2. La Toya Jackson as the Alien (Masked Singer US)
Speaking of legends, La Toya Jackson made her return to reality television as an Alien! Though she only made it to sixth place on the series, she still delivered some stellar performances that will undoubtedly go down in Masked Singer history.
1. Caitlyn Jenner as the Phoenix (Masked Singer US)
Though her voice was quite easy to pick up on, it was still a massive surprise when Caitlyn Jenner took off her Phoenix mask and revealed herself to be one of the first boots of her respective series of The Masked Singer. It was probably for the best that she went early, as she couldn’t keep up very well with Kesha’s song, Tik Tok!
