Following the history-making news yesterday that Ronda Rousey would join Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the WWE's first-ever all-female WrestleMania main event, comes the announcement today that rock icon Joan Jett will be playing her hit song Bad Reputation as Rousey makes her way to the squared circle for one of the biggest battles of her life.
Neil Lawi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the WWE Music Group comments: "The Queen of Rock 'N Roll, Joan Jett, is a music legend and icon for powerful women everywhere. Her performance at this year's WrestleMania promises to be both exhilarating and inspiring, and we are honoured to watch her join a distinct list of extraordinary performers who have lit up the WWE stage."
Past live acts include Motörhead, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Kid Rock, Diddy, Machine Gun Kelly, Skylar Grey, Travis Barker, and fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Run D.M.C.
Jett is of course famed for being a founding member of rock band the Runaways, and paved the way for strong female artists to enter the male-dominated arena of rock music.
After five albums, she launched Joan Jett & the Blackhearts with major hits including I Love Rock 'n Roll and I Hate Myself For Loving You. She is one of the ultimate feminist icons, and is a perfect fit as the world sees women dominate WrestleMania's main event.
Rousey is the current Raw Women's Champion, and is defending her title in a Triple Threat match, where anything goes. What this means is that she doesn't actually have to be the person pinned or forced to tap out to lose the gold, so the stakes are higher than ever before.
WrestleMania 35 takes place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on April 7, 2019. The event streams live on pay-per-view, and as part of a subscription to the WWE Network.
