Jazmine Franks is just one member of the Hollyoaks cast who's recently been filming in Derry-Londonderry for the hit Channel 4 soap, so we caught up with the star about experiencing the city and filming in a new location.

What was your favourite place to visit in D-LD?

I loved filming in and just outside the Guildhall. It's such a beautiful building that I think will look fab on screen. Also the wall around Derry-Londonderry holds a lot of history which is really interesting.

Did you get a chance to experience the nightlife?

Yes we managed to go out a few nights, we visited an Irish bar which had live Irish music which was cool.

What did you like most about the City?

Most certainly the people! Everyone was so welcoming. It was great to see so many fans who were so happy to have us there!

Was acting something you always wanted to do?

I started drama classes when I was 6 to build my confidence, it all started from then really.

What did it feel like when you were cast in Hollyoaks?

I was over the moon! I wasn't really enjoying being at University so it came at the perfect time.

How has the experience of being in a soap as big as Hollyoaks been?

It's pretty hectic but loads of fun. I've learnt so much from working here and definitely met people who are friends for life.

How did your experience filming in Derry-Londonderry compare to your usual locations?

When filming on location we are only usually there for a few days so we don't have time to chill out but we were lucky enough to have a full week in Derry-Londonderry which allowed us the odd afternoon off to have a look around. We went on a fab open top bus tour! It was a really good group of us that went. Hopefully all our hard work will pay off on screen.

Which big names would you love to work with?

I don't really have a big name that I would like to work with. I like to work with unknown actors, people who are up and coming.

What other projects are you involved with that you can share. some details about?

Obviously Hollyoaks has been my main priority for the past 3 years. I haven't been involved in any other acting jobs as such. I raise money for charity when I can. I recently completed a skydive and raised over £750 for BeatBullying.

Derry-Londonderry is celebrating being the first UK City of Culture 2013. Upcoming events including the Turner Prize and a stunning visual art festival, Lumiere. Visit www.ireland.com for more details or to plan your trip.
