Awards season 2017 is officially in full swing, with the annual Golden Globes Awards ceremony taking place last night (January 8) and dishing out a slew of accolades to small screen British talent.
Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie were amongst some of the big winners on the night for their work in The Night Manager, whilst Sarah Paulson and American Crime Story: The People v OJ Simpson were also celebrated.
Hiddleston said “this is lovely” upon accepting his award, before thanking the crowd and those watching and dedicating the win to aid workers in South Sudan where he had recently travelled.
Laurie added a little humour to his own speech, referencing US President-elect Donald Trump. He said: “Thank you to the HFPA for this amazing honour. I suppose made more amazing by the fact that I’ll be able to say I won this at the last ever Golden Globes. I don’t mean to be gloomy. It’s just that it has ‘Hollywood’, ‘foreign’ and ‘press’ in the title.”
Netflix original series The Crown took home this year’s prize for Best TV Drama Series, whilst Claire Foy’s work on the show as Queen Elizabeth II earned her the gong for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series.
Over in the TV Comedy categories, Atlanta was the big winner, taking the Best TV Comedy Series and seeing Donald Glover take the Best Actor in a TV Musical/Comedy Series. Black-ish also saw success however in the Best Actress in a TV Musical/Comedy Series category, with Tracee Ellis Ross beating out stiff competition.
