Kevin Spacey in House of Cards

House of Cards and Behind the Candelabra have led the television half of Golden Globe nominations this year, with four nods each.

Breaking Bad, Dancing on the Edge and The Good Wife each took three nominations, and Downton Abbey was among those chosen to compete for the title of Best Drama Series.

No major surprises were present throughout the short and swift nominations ceremony - excluding the Game of Thrones snub that will send fans reeling following the harrowing events of last season.

A nod for The Good Wife in Best TV Drama means that broadcast television has been brought back to the category after a two-year hiatus, and most noticeably missing from the category were The Americans and Orange is the New Black.

Check out the full list of nominations for the 2014 71st annual Golden Globes Award show below - airing January 12, live on NBC with hosts Tina Fey and nominated actress Amy Poehler.
