Rugby legend Martin Offiah has proved he is a force to be reckon with on the pitch, but does this rugby league star have what it takes to see off this weekâs challenger 27-year-old Pete Russell, a PE teacher from Poole?
âChariotsâ is known for his tremendous running speed and is a lethal finisher on the field scoring over 500 tries during his illustrious career. This time the 42-year-old will be playing for his pride and his reputation. Martin will go head to head with our challenger Pete over seven different games made up of physical and mental challenges right through to the downright quirky and daring. This week the contestants will be scaling a 100 feet high wall, playing being lumberjacks when they race against each other to saw through a log and turning their hand to archery.
Standing a 6â1â and a self confessed fitness fanatic Pete spends his working day teaching sport in his local school - heâs been teaching for a over a year and loves his job. Martin is famed for his eye for a try, often making interceptions then racing the length of the field to score, his services to rugby were suitably rewarded in 1997 when he received an MBE at Buckingham Palace. With a whopping £50,000 at stake for Pete and the pride and reputation on the line for Martin there is everything to play for.
Host Vernon Kay will be on hand to explain each round and encourage both contestants throughout the rounds. Each of the challenges will be a complete surprise to the players giving them only seconds to prepare.
Will Martin touch down as the winner or will Pete move to the top of the class and pocket the £50,000 prize fund for himself? If Martin succeeds the money rolls over until next week when a new celebrity and challenger come face to face in Beat The Star.
Stars who will be appearing later in the series include tennis ace Martina Navratilova, Emmerdaleâs hunk Kelvin Fletcher (Andy Sugden) and tennis champion and newly accomlished ice dancer Greg Rusedski.
Beat The Star is a co-production by Diverse and Gallowgate exclusively for ITV1.
