NOTE: Countries used in this study were Australia, Spain, France, the U.K., the U.S., Germany, Italy, Philippines, India and Singapore.

With the season four premiere underway, and many fans staying up until 2am to watch the first episode of the fourth season, the globe is very much inundated with GoT mania once more.

In a study where 5,104 online stories about the series were published to Oubrain's network in March 2014, the total number of page views relevant or irrelevant to Game of Thrones in countries including Australia, Spain, France and the UK among others during March 2014 were used as benchmarks against page views of stories on Game of Thrones.

This picked up some interesting facts on the popularity of the Seven Kingdoms' residents, and the families we root for, love, and love to hate.

Surprisingly, almost twice as many stories were published with a focus on House Lannister than House Stark, with Lannister-based stories generating nearly three times as many consumer page views on a global scale.

Every country included in the study based on page views per story 'sided' with the Lannisters, with France being the only exception who were firm fans of the Stark clan.

Cersei Lannister was a recognised fna favourite across the globe, generating the greatest amount of views per story published, and taking the top spot as favourite character (in terms of page views per article) in half of the countries in the study: Germany, India, Italy, Philippines and Singapore. France once again broke away from the mould and chose her brother Tyrion as the most popular character.

Americans have a thing for the boy king Joffrey, who gets mos tpage views per story published in the States, and in the UK it's Wildling Ygritte who took the lead.

Australians gave their number one slot to the on/off romance between Jon Snow and Ygritte, with Spain choosing the Mother of Dragons herself Daenerys, who generated the most headlines across the world, receiving the highest attention from the media.

The United Kingdom proved to be the country most interested in the series, with 13 times as many page views of Game of Thrones articles than the least interested country studied, Italy.

Then there's Sansa Stark, who cannot seem to catch a break, and is the least popular character among global fans as season 4 opens its doors.

Game of Thrones season 4 episode 1 airs tonight on Sky Atlantic and Sky Atlantic HD at 9pm.
