With WWE SummerSlam just around the corner, we've decided to take a look at five of the most memorable matches from the big pay-per-view event in recent history. Whether it's from the 90s, 00s or 10s, the WWE wrestlers have always been able to prove one thing - they have what it takes to put on one of the best performances in the world.
5) The Undertaker vs. Edge (2008)
Doing his best to banish The Undertaker from the company in a TLC match, World Heavyweight Champion Edge was forced to take on the Deadman in Hell in a Cell. Stepping into the veteran's own backyard, Edge and Undertaker did their best to incorporate everything at their disposal into their weaponry, including ladders, chairs, ring steps and the chain links of the cell they were trapped in. Eventually chokeslamming Edge through tables at ringside from the top rope and using two of Edge's own finishers against him, Undertaker took back his World Title and sent The Rated-R Superstar straight through the ring floor itself with a final chokeslam.
4) Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H (2002)
Best friends turned vicious rivals in the summer of 2002, when it was revealed that Triple H was the man who attacked shawn Michaels in a parking lot, forcing him into a wheelchair. When Michaels got back to his feet following the exposé, there was only one option - the two had to do battle in a violent Street Fight. Michaels made a triumphant return to the ring, beating his former friend by relying on brawler tactics and utilising the No Disqualifications rule to his advantage. A brutally brilliant memory that's going down in history.
3) Bret 'Hit Man' Hart vs. Mr. Perfect (1991)
Both historical for its impact and brilliant technique, the Intercontinental win Bret picked up here over Curt Hennig's Mr. Perfect is one of the best matches to ever grace WWE, period. Years on from the Hit Man's career, this is now one of the most important match-ups people look back on, as it was Hart's first big singles win in his WWE career. Despite enduring a lot of punishment in the bout, Bret managed to kick out of the Perfect-plex before picking up the victory. If you've got the WWE Network, make sure you rewatch this brilliant one-on-one.
2) John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (2014)
Brock Lesnar was an unbeatable man following his dominance at Wrestlemania, ending The Undertaker's streak and then stepping into the ring against John Cena in a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The pair put on an incredible match, showing it can often pay off to be brutal from the get-go. In the end, Lesnar's dominance reigned supreme, and we're still seeing the effects of that today, with a big match against Undertaker scheduled for SummerSlam 2015.
1) Bret 'Hit Man' Hart vs. The British Bulldog (1992)
Could anything else really sit here? This was THE match-up that made SummerSlam turn into one of the biggest sporting events on the globe, and it took place at Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom! The British Bulldog took to the ring to challenge brother-in-law Bret 'Hit Man' Hart for the Intercontinental Championship, and the pair managed to send the 80,355 audience members wild. In the end it was Bulldog who managed to take the title home, but there was no bad blood between the pair, with things ending in a congratulatory handshake and warm embrace with the family.
WWE SummerSlam 2015 takes place on Sunday, August 23 live on the WWE Network.
